Focus on your potential instead of your limitations – Alan Loy McGinnis
POTENTIAL: the expectation to become or be.
The greatest tragedy is to come to the end of your life, and look back on the opportunities that were missed, because you never rose to your full Potential.
Far too many people exist in a world of “What is” rather than giving thought to “What Can Be”.
It has been said, “the richest place on earth is the cemetery, because it represents many people who have died with (as yet) unrealized dreams”
When you consider that your Potential influences your dreams, goals and ultimate success, it is therefore compelling that you use it.
The great storyteller Mark Twain told, about a man who died and met Saint Peter at the pearly gates. Realizing Saint Peter was a wise and knowledgeable person, he said, “St Peter, I have been interested in political history for many years. Tell me, who was the greatest President of the United States?”
With no hesitation, St Peter quickly responded, “Oh that is a simple question, it’s that man right over there,” as he pointed nearby”
The man said, “you must be mistaken, Saint Peter, I knew that man on earth and he was just a common worker.”
That’s right my friend, “but he would have been the greatest President of all time”.
WE WERE CREATED FOR MORE....
It is becoming evident, while some people have capitalised on their ability to achieve much in their lives, others have squandered their opportunities by living a life of mediocrity and being average.
DO YOU WANT TO MOVE FROM "AVERAGE’ TO EXCEPTIONAL", FROM "GOOD TO GREATNESS" (emphasis on opportunities taken).
Gods Investment......
There is no greater illustration, which describes ‘Potential Realized’, than in the Bible. Take Peter for instance, he was rough around the edges, always causing trouble, and saying and doing the wrong thing, but yet Jesus saw potential in him, and made him a disciple. Moses was recorded as being a man with little speaking skills, because he fumbled and stuttered with his words, and yet God gave him the ability to lead many thousands of people, during his lifetime on earth.
INVEST IN SOMEONE ELSES POTENTIAL.........your husband, wife, kids or friends.....
A few years ago, my family and I were called to pledge our financial support for two kids in Uganda. Keep in mind, these kids have no stability in their lives. They live on a menial existence, are deprived of many basic human rights like clean water, a proper meal and an education.
At first, I was reluctant, because my wife and I have two kids of our own, however, I realised that investing in these two kids was an investment, worth making.
I soon figured, our contribution to help these kids live their lives with Potential, could perhaps set them up to become the next community leader or maybe President of their Nation. Whatever their future, it was a compelling reason to believe that we could make a difference.
On reflection, A wise investment indeed!
REFLECTION:
RAISING YOUR EXPECTATION – don’t settle for anything less than what God wants to do through you. Je 32:27 I am the lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me...
Do what is reasonably possible, and God will make the impossible, possible. When God announces NOW IS THE ACCEPTABLE TIME, What do you do next..........
Always push the boundaries to those things you fear. God will make a way, where there seems to be No Way…Isa 43:19
Whether you are in a place of transition, about to make a big decision, or you have been called into leadership and need guidance, trust God that he will raise your Potential to a height that will see new doors of opportunity open to you........STEP IN!
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE YOUR POTENTIAL OR THE POTENTIAL OF OTHERS. ALWAYS GIVE WEIGHT TO IT!
NEVER GIVE IN TO THE ENORMITY OF THE CHALLENGE, WHEN YOU KNOW THAT ITS WITHIN YOUR POTENTIAL TO DO ALL THAT YOU DESIRE, AND GOD HAS PLANNED FOR YOUR LIFE ©
